The Columbia FiberArts Guild will be presenting a one-day event on September 15, 2018, that will include an art exhibit, fashion show, and Artist Market. The event takes place at the Grace Memorial Episcopal Church at 1535 NE 17th Ave., Portland from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to come enjoy this one-day event. Admission is free.
Over 75 works of art will be on exhibit throughout the day, and will include art quilts, wearable art, and 3-dimensional sculptural pieces. For anyone unfamiliar with textile arts, we encourage you to come and be surprised by what artists can create with textiles – these are NOT your grandmother’s patchwork quilts! Ranging from the figurative to the abstract and conceptual, many of these works of art address contemporary issues, while others evoke emotion and contemplation of our beautiful world.
Another highlight of this event will be the fashion show which will take place at 2:30 p.m., presented by the Wearables group. An artists’ reception will follow the fashion show.
The Artists Market will feature artistic and functional items for purchase. Guild members have been given the opportunity to present up to five items for the Market. Hand-painted silk scarves, stitched journals, art dolls and handmade felted vessels are among the items being offered for sale.
Founded in 1969, over the years the Guild has been home to all manner of textile artists. Originally called the Columbia Stitchery Guild, early members focused on arts such as embroidery and macramé. Current members include art quilters, surface designers, a wearables group, and mixed media and 3D artists. The Guild boasts a number of award winning textile artists who have exhibited nationally and internationally. We invite you to come celebrate with us as we enter our 50th year!
